Seattle Commons

Joel:  Very touching film.  Great responses and put together in a way that unites so many people.  Hopefully, it’s never too late to go back and correct mistakes and some day someone will.  Do you have any extra time to spare?   Vickie

It was amazing to watch after so many years. Very moving and made me proud of everybody. What an effort that was. We had a 70+ person board, a great staff, and hundreds and hundreds of active volunteers, all trying to make their city a better place to live and raise a family. I walked through the area this morning just to refresh my memories.

Oh, I LOVED that! I never remember seeing this video before. OK, can we try that whole Commons thing over again?

There is still a lot of land left undeveloped. In fact, the green space at the end of the video that was being planted by volunteers is still there today. Paul Allen could still built a wonderful park that would stretch from South Lake Union to Downtown. It would be smaller than the original vision but would still be really cool and would help to make that whole area softer and more friendly. Given modern park design concepts one could still make an outstanding public space.
