To put some of McCain’s self-serving rhetoric in perspective (“I ran a respectful campaign….” etc.), read the article in the current New Yorker on the two McCains: the McCain who said he would never stoop to using Bush-like, smear tactics (which had been so successfully used against McCain himself in the prior election) and the other McCain, the one who ended up employing the very same men who had once smeared him. When McCain, in this Leno appearance, claims that all campaigns are tough but that his never got personal, one wonders which McCain is speaking now that his Bush- handlers are gone.
