Unofficial Poll Update

I have just returned from the polls here at my home in Fairfax County, Virginia.  I arrived at 5:45 am to find the school parking lot full and cars lining the road on both sides for about a mile in either direction.  I thought I would be one of the first in line, but people were already lined up and wrapping around three sides of the building.  There was an unmistakable air of excitement.  I think everyone in line felt as I did, that they were part of history in the making.  I remember feeling this same way when I watched John F. Kennedy being sworn into office.  I have to admit, politics have not inspired this sort of feeling for me in the interim.

Now for the unofficial poll.  As some of you already know, I decided that for the course of the election, I would track the number of calls that I received from each political party.  I then declared that I would vote for the side that called me the least.  I am happy to report that the count here on Election Day is Democrats 5, Republicans 54.

Another good sign is that the Washington Redskins lost their home game against Pittsburg last night, final score 23-6.  I am not a sports fan, but I usually hope that the home team wins.  However, I got an email yesterday with this:

The Washington Redskins may be the most accurate choice of a presidential candidate in the country. When you look at the last 18 elections, take the last home Washington Redskins game before the election, and if the Redskins win the incumbent party retains the White House, if the road team wins, the opposition candidate will win.

I’m wearing blue today, and can’t wait until I see Virginia in blue on the election return maps tonight.

Dawn, great story, we are all going up to vote at about 8:30AM. We have all voted with mail-in ballots so that we can go in and just drop them in the box.
